It was "released" in February 1985, === ran on VAX hardware ===, and was a variant of 4.1cBSD with some System V.2 features (notably the shell).
V8 Unix introduced the STREAMS I/O mechanism, the /proc filesystem and several other features later incorporated into System V.
V8 also featured a network file system, which permitted access to other machines' entire filesystem trees. For example, the file /etc/passwd on server foovax would be accessible to client machines as /n/foovax/etc/passwd.
"The Unix Programming Environment" was prepared on a VAX-11/750 running a preliminary version of V8 Unix.
Tenth Edition Unix, also known as Version 10 Unix or V10, was the last version of the Research Unix operating system developed and used internally at Bell Labs. "Released" in 1989, it was the successor of V9. There was no V11; Unix development at Bell Labs was discontinued in favor of Plan 9.
Novelties in V10 included graphics typesetting tools designed to work with troff, a C interpreter, animation programs, and several tools later found in Plan 9: the Mk build tool and the rc shell.
V10 was the basis for Douglas McIlroy and Jonathan Reeds' IX multilevel-secure operating system. |
| #2 Автор: Юрий (2017.04.03 17:07) | | BSD системы всегда идут с исходниками, причем на все, на каждую програмку, на каждый сервис. И во всех версиях, начиная с первых. И все это валом лежит на FTP серверах, только кому сейчас есть время во всем этом копаться. Если вы даже разберете код программы Ping, поняв принцип ее работы, замысел авторов, то честь вам и хвала :) |
