Take better advantage of Windows 95 by learning its underlying internal architecture & operation!
Instructor: Matt Pietrek, Author of Windows 95 System Programming Secrets (IDG Books),
and the "Under the Hood" columnist for Microsoft Systems Journal
Duration: 1 Day
Optional 1 Day Hands-On Labs
This 1-day seminar will explain how Windows 95 works under the hood. Using a variety of programs, the seminar will dig beneath the Win32 API functions to show how Window 95 is implemented. The seminar will be a combination of lecture and live demonstrations in Windows 95.
Upon completion of this seminar, you will have a solid technical grounding in many of the fundamental data structures and algorithms used by Windows 95. With this information, you can program and debug more effectively, and with less guesswork. NOTE: This seminar does not cover the internals of the I/O system (including VxDs) or networking components.
Attendees should be midlevel to advanced Win32 programmers who can program in the C language. This seminar assumes a basic knowledge of process and thread creation, using DLLs, and creating and managing windows. Knowledge of Intel 80x86 assembly language would be helpful, but not required.
Labs are available as an add-on option, extending the class from 1 to 2 days. The labs are interspersed throughout the 2 days, allowing the students to gain a deeper grasp of the material by solving real problems at their PC (hardware must be provided by client). Exercises include using tools to examine Windows 95 internals and writing C programs that display internal Windows 95 data structures and emulate Windows system functions.
