1.1	  Installation

Please note that the CheckIt installer will not work properly when run
from UNC path names, (i.e. \\MyServer\Joe's C Drive\) if you are
accessing this CD-ROM from a network drive, you MUST map a drive letter
to this location for SETUP to work properly.

1.2	  Special System considerations

* DVD media.
  At this time, CheckIt does not support DVD media.

* CheckIt Tutorial.
  The CheckIt Tutorial on the CD-ROM requires a sound card.

* Tool Tips
  On some original Windows95 systems (those without any service packs),
  Tool Tip boxes may not appear in CheckIt.

* Video Resolution
  CheckIt is compatible with 640 x 480 resolution, but looks better at
  resolutions of 800 x 600 or higher.

1.3	  Active Update

Active Update allows you to automatically update CheckIt over the
Internet. It is strongly recommended, upon completion of the
installation that you use the Active Update feature to ensure that
you have the latest version of CheckIt.

In order for Active Update to connect to the internet, you must have
a 32-bit internet connection. If you don't know if you have a 32-bit
connection, please contact your I.S.P. (Internet Service Provider)

Active Update does not automatically disconnect your internet
connection upon completion of the update.

When the active Update screen is first displayed, you can not tab select
the "Check For Update, Undo Last Update or Update Log" buttons.
To enable the tab select for this area place your mouse in the Active
Update area and click your mouse to select the area or press
the F6 key twice.

Special Note for AOL (America OnLine) Users:
1) You must use the 32-bit version of AOL specifically for Windows 95.
2) You must connect to AOL and log on before starting Active Update.

1.4   Dos Restore Utility

The Dos Restore Utility is to only be used with CheckIt created
system backup files. It is recommended that the files only be
restored to their original directories

1.5	  Compatibility

* If Internet Explorer 4.0 has been uninstalled after CheckIt
  5.0 was installed the following error message may be displayed.

    "Wininet.dll file is linked to missing export Shlwapi.dll"

  To solve this problem From the Windows\System folder delete
  Wininet.dll. Then reinstall CheckIt 5.0. This will install a
  different version of wininet.dll.

* Note for notebook users using docking stations: If you have two
  Windows profiles enabled to allow you to access different devices
  while docked and undocked, the QuickCheck may report some problems
  which you do not want fixed and can't be fixed, either through the
  TroubleShooter or Windows. CheckIt detects all profiles and the
  reports will reflect this. Since Windows deliberately disables
  some devices depending on the profile, and since CheckIt detects
  disabled items as a problem, it will flag these areas and offer
  suggestions on how to fix the problem. But because the problem
  is really caused by Windows disabling devices when loading a
  particular profile, and since CheckIt is not changing the
  profiles, the problem will reappear when Windows is restarted.
  Notebook users should just ignore these issues since they are
  not really problems.

* Note: Drivers loaded in the AUTOEXEC.BAT can prevent the memory
  test from running. When trying to run a memory test, if Windows
  shuts down then restarts without running the memory test, you
  should run the memory test from DOS. You will find the DOS memory
  test program named CKMEM.EXE in the folder C:\TSC\CHECKIT\TESTS.
  For information on running the test, go to the TESTS directory and
  type CKMEM /?<Enter>. REMarking all the drivers in the
  AUTOEXEC.BAT when running the memory test also should fix the
  problem. One particular driver we found a problem with is the one
  used for the Aztech modem/sound card.

* Certain Anti-Virus programs, when active, will cause your system to
  stop responding during the Motherboard, Ports and Drives tests. If
  this happens, disable or close the Anti-Virus software and run
  the test again.
