0. About PC-cillin OEM Ver 4.02
===============================
PC-cillin OEM Ver 4.02 does not support the following features provided
by the standard PC-cillin 98 retail software.
. Program and scan engine update. Only virus pattern update is supported.
. Active Channel and Active Desktop
. On-line registration

1. About Trend PC-cillin 98

PC-cillin 98 Stardard version features the following:

* High speed scanning and easy operation
The Real-time virus monitoring function has been separated from the manual 
virus detection function and is now memory-resident. This enables you to recall 
the virus detection function for files and disks whenever necessary and cuts 
down on the amount of required resident memory.

Also, by improving the operation of the program, PC-cillin 98 realizes a 
significant speed increase relative to the previous version.

* Blocking harmful Java applets and malicious ActiveX controls
PC-cillin 98 blocks the download of illegal Java applets and ActiveX controls 
through a web browser, including Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator.

* Updates via Internet
You can update the PC-cillin application programs, as well as the virus pattern 
file, via the Internet using Internet Explorer Version 3.0 or later. You can also update 
PC-cillin 98 virus pattern files via BBS, floppy disk, or CD-ROM.

* Virus information via Active Desktop
Trend Micro will send the latest virus information to your desktop 
through push technology.
 - Up-to-the-minute information on all the latest viral outbreaks
 - Trend Micro corporate news
 - Update information for virus pattern files and the scan engine
To use this function, you need Windows 98 or Microsoft Internet Explorer 
Version 4.0 or higher.


2. Operating environment for PC-cillin 98  
===================

PC-cillin 98 requires the following operating environment:

  [Hardware]
  .  An IBM PC/AT or compatible computer that runs Windows 95 or Windows 98
  .  CPU: Intel 486DX/66 MHz or faster
  .  Hard disk: Minimum 12 MB free space for installation

  [OS]
  .  Windows 95 or Windows 98

PC-cillin 98 requires the following operating environment:

  [WebTrap]
  Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 3.0 or later, or Netscape Navigator 
  Version 3.0 or later

  [Subscription of Active Desktop and Active Channel]
  Windows 98 or Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 4.0 or later

  [Update of virus pattern files and program via Internet]
  Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 3.0 or later



3. Precautions
===================

3.1. Installation
-------------------------
Installing PC-cillin 98 automatically uninstalls PC-cillin II/PC-cillin 97
(including the Lite version and trial version) and the Trend Micro Site License 
II Client for Windows 95 if they are installed on your system.

If PC-cillin 98 cannot uninstall these programs, installation will be cancelled.
In this case, uninstall these programs manually, then install PC-cillin 98.  
(Refer to the quick installation card for installation/uninstallation 
information)

3.2 Users of PC-cillin 98 beta version
---------------------------------------
You have to uninstall PC-cillin 98 beta version before installing the software.

3.3 Users of 30-day trial version 
-----------------------------------
If your software is the 30-day trial version, you can use this software only during
the trial period--30 days.  Please call the nearest Trend Micro office to 
inquire about purchase information.  Refer to Trend Micro's world-wide 
office information in the help file.

3.4. About fonts
------------------
System fonts at certain sizes may display incorrectly. In this case, 
select "font size" from the "display property" menu and set it to "small font."

3.5. About uninstallation
-----------------------------
When you uninstall the program, the following files and directories will not
be deleted. If you do not need these files, delete them manually.
 - A SUSPECT folder and infected files that were moved after virus detection
 - Log file (File name: yyyymmdd.rlg)
 - The newly-added files, if any, after update

3.6. Using WebTrap
---------------------------
After you install PC-cillin 98, WebTrap will only be enabled after you 
reboot the system, If You must be using Windows 98 or Internet Explorer ver 4.x.

If you update any WebTrap modules (Javahook.dll and webtrap.exe), the 
new settings will be enabled after re-booting your computer.

3.7. About file extensions
--------------------------
Files with the following extensions will not be scanned for viruses during 
real-time scanning.
   lnk, ini, dll, drv, inf, fon, ttf, dat, pif, log, wav, dic

Files with the following extensions will not be scanned for viruses during 
manual or scheduled scanning.
   lnk, dll

Files that have been scanned and cleaned by PC-cillin 98 have some 
limitations during cleaning.
 - Files with an extension .RB? (? represents a numeral) created during 
cleaning will not be cleaned, if have already checked the option of "Backup file
before clean"
 - Renamed files with an extension .VI? (? represents a numeral) will 
not be renamed again.


3.8. ScreenSaver Scan
------------------------------
PC-cillin 98's ScreenSaver scan can work properly with the following 
screen saver software:
. Under Windows 95 OSR2 or Windows 98, if the screensaver software supports
  OpenGL, such as:
        3D Flowser Box
        3D Flying Objects
        3D Maze
        3D Pipes
        3D Text
. The screen saver software included in Windows 98 Plus Pack:        
        Fox Trot
        Garfield
        Geometry
        Horror Channel
        Jazz
        Organic Art 
        Peanuts
        Photo Disc
        Rock-n-Roll
        Science Fiction
        UnderWater

3.9. Configuring the HTTP Proxy Settings
-----------------------------------------
If your Internet connection uses a proxy server, you will have to configure
PC-cillin 98's Internet Configuration with the following steps:

Configure-->Internet-->HTTP Proxy server configuration

You need to provide the following information: Address, Port, Password, and
User ID.


3.10. About virus cleaning
-------------------------
When PC-cillin 98 detects a virus and cleans the infected file, it creates 
a backup file with the extension .RB? (? represents a numeral).

If a file is infected with multiple viruses, PC-cillin 98 repeatedly cleans 
the file up to five times, creating a backup file each time.

Some application programs allow infected and renamed files to be used in the 
same way as non-infected files. It is very risky if these renamed files are 
kept in a folder that the application accesses automatically.

This type of special folder is set up for the system or the individual 
application program.

For example:
    XLStart folder used by Microsoft Excel
    Windows StartUp folder


3.11. Using PCSCAN.EXE to perform virus scanning on compressed files
----------------------------------------------------------------
PCSCAN.EXE needs to use a temporary directory to store the extracted
files during scanning.  It will use the following 'temp' directory specified 
by the system, for example, Set TEMP=C:\TMP.

Please refer to the DOS user's manual. 


  
4. Known issues with PC-cillin 98 Ver 4.02
===========================================
4.1 [Word 97/Word 98]
--------------------
PC-cillin 98 will remove all macro commands when cleaning virus-
infected Word files.

4.2 [Excel 97]
-----------
PC-cillin 98 will remove all the macro commands when cleaning virus
infected Excel files.

4.3 [PowerPoint]
----------------
PC-cillin 98 cannot perform virus scans on files created by PowerPoint.

4.4 [Password protected data files]
------------------------------------
-Word 95/Word 6.0
 PC-cillin 98 cannot perform virus scanning on password protected files 
 which were created by Word 95/Word 6.0
-Word 97
 PC-cillin 98 can detect viruses in Word 97 files.  However, it cannot remove the
 viruses.
-Excel
 PC-cillin 98 can detect virus-infected Excel 95/Excel 5.0 files.  
 However, it cannot remove the viruses.
 PC-cillin 98 can detect and remove viruses in Excel 97 files.

PC-cillin 98 cannot detect viruses on password-protected files created by
software other than the ones mentioned above.
