AMIDiag 6.00 End User Version Installation and Execution instruction
--------------------------------------------------------------------

NOTE:
----
To operate properly, AMIDiag must be run under DOS. If you
have Windows 95, you will need to reboot the system, press F8 when
Windows 95 is starting and select "Command Prompt".

Also make sure that the EMM386 Driver is not loaded by removing the
line from CONFIG.SYS and rebooting to command prompt.

All files required to run AMIDiag are provided in 2 floppy
diskettes in the compressed AMIn.EXE. In addition, all required runtime
files are also provided in the first floppy.

To run AMIDiag End User Version from a hard disk:-

1. Select the floppy drive where the Amidiag floppy #1 is:
	A:<enter>
2. Execute the command
	INSTALL<enter>
This will expand AMIDiag files on you Hard disk on the directory
   you'll specify
3. Follow the prompts, you can change the destination drive and
   directory during the installation
4. Change your default drive and directory to the one selected during
   the installation
5. Run AMIDiag typing:
   AMIDIAG<enter>

To run AMIDiag from Floppy on a DOS or Win 3.1/95 system:-

1. Make a copy of your original floppies and store the originals
2. If you're running Windows, switch to the DOS prompt
3. Execute SYS A: to transfer DOS Operating system to the copy of floppy #1 that you just
   made in step 1
4. CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files on the original AMIDiag floppy #1 are already setup
to load the desired DOS drivers for AMIDiag to expand the files on to a RAM Drive and
execute from the RAM Drive. You will need to copy the following files from your DOS
directory to the newly created floppy #1

   HIMEM.SYS
   RAMDRIVE.SYS
   MOUSE.EXE
ASPI8DOS.SYS ; Or equivalant ASPI driver if you have SCSI drives

On a Windows 95 system you'll find these drivers in the :
   C:\Windows\command or C:\Windows directory.
Your ASPI driver will be located in the place specified
   during your SCSI software installation.

5. Copy all the files from the AMIDiag diskette #1 to the newly created boot disk.
Note: if any devices you wish to test need drivers to operate, you will need to
copy those device drivers to this new boot disk and edit the appropriate file
[config.sys or autoexec.bat] and include lines to load the drivers you need for
your sound card, modem...etc. If you do not, some devices may not be detected or
         tested.

6. Now boot from the floppy created above. AMIDiag will automatically
be invoked, expanded to the RAM Drive and start running.

7. Please note that in the above environment, the AMIDiag working
directory is A: drive where all the working files are located.
You will need to leave the floppy in the drive when AMIDiag is
running. If you prefer the working directory to be somewhere on
the hard disk, you will need to do the following:-

   * Create a working directory on hard disk
   * Change the "AMIDIAGDIR=A:\" in AUTOEXEC.BAT file on the floppy to
AMIDIAGDIR=<name of working directory you created on hard disk>

Notes:
1) On the original AMIDiag distribution diskette #1, there should be 9 files:
     a) autoexec.bat
     b) config.sys
     c) ami1.exe
     d) dwcfgmg.sys
     e) install.exe
     f) shell.exe
     g) upgrade.exe
     h) readme.txt
     i) shell.ini
2) on the newly created disk, there should be at least 12 files
(not including the 2 hidden system files):
     a) autoexec.bat
     b) command.com
     c) ramdrive.sys
     d) himem.sys
     e) config.sys
     f) ami1.exe
     g) dwcfgmg.sys
     h) install.exe
     i) shell.exe
     j) upgrade.exe
     k) readme.txt
     l) shell.ini

plus
     m) mouse.exe (if needed for using in the program itself or running the mouse test.
This will be located wherever you installed it such as C:\mouse)

     n) aspi8dos.sys (or appropriate SCSI driver when testing SCSI devices)
     o) any other device drivers needed for testing devices that need them
        (sound cards, NICs, ...etc)

3) If you are not able to fit all files on the newly created floppy, use Windows Explorer
(or a program that can view all files on the disk including hidden files) and
   delete files such as drvspace.bin, drvspace.sys, dblspace.bin, dblspace.sys,
and any other files not mentioned above or not needed for any devices you wish to test.

To run AMIDiag from Floppy on a Win NT system:-

On a Win NT system formatted in NTFS, you can only run AMIDiag from floppy, but you need
to use a DOS based system to prepare the AMIDiag floppy and follow the instructions in the
previous section.
