Fractal Design Expression Beta: Windows

WHAT IS IT?

The Expression public beta is a full working version of Expression
for Windows 95 and NT. If you haven't yet seen how Expression
combines the expressiveness of Natural-Media technology with the
advantages of a vector-based drawing application, this is
your chance!

More information about Expression is available at the
Expression homepage:

      http://www.fractal.com/products/expression/

A Macintosh version of the Expression beta will be available in
September.

DOWNLOAD FILES:

The Expression beta is available as either a single file or as
6 split files. For instructions on downloading the split files,
see below.

exprbeta.exe - This is the Expression installer in a self-
                 extracting archive (9.8MB).

exprdocs.pdf - This is the Expression documentation in Acrobat
PDF format (requires the Adobe Acrobat Reader
                 from http://www.adobe.com/). The PDF contains
Chapter 1 of the Expression User Guide in
                 beta form (3.7MB).

INSTALLATION:

- Download the file exprbeta.exe into a temporary folder.
- Double-click the file to run the self-extractor. Follow the
  on-screen instructions to install Expression.
- After the Expression beta has successfully been installed, you
  may delete the temporary folder.
- For documentation on using Expression, download the file
exprdocs.pdf and view it using the Acrobat Reader. Online help
is not provided in the beta version.

USING THE SPLIT FILES:

If you are on a slow line or not in North America, it may be
easier for you to download the Expression beta as a series
of split files. These are located in the "split" subdirectory
here.

expbeta1.zip - These are the 6 individual files that make up
(through) the Expression installer. They are each
  expbeta6.zip 1.6MB.

expdocs1.zip - These are the 2 individual files that make up
expdocs2.zip the Expression documentation. They are both
                 1.8MB.

hjsplit.zip - This is "HJSplit," the freeware utility you
need to join the split files.

To use the split files:

- Download the 6 expbeta files, the 2 expdocs files (optional),
  and the hjsplit file.
- Using any unzip utility (like WinZip), extract all these files
into a temporary directory. The Expression files will unzip
into filenames similar to this: "exprbeta.exe.001"
- Start hjsplit.exe, choose "Join", and click on the filename
field to select the first Expression beta file (the one named
with "001"). Click "Start". The split files will be joined into
  a single file called "exprbeta.exe".
- If you like, you can use the "Checksum" feature in HJSplit to
confirm that the exprbeta.exe file is intact. The checksum
  should be "0000 0000 0000 48AE CA00".
- Repeat the Join process on the exprdocs files. The checksum
  for exprdocs.pdf is "0000 0000 0000 1B7C 93F9".
- Continue with the installation instructions above.
