The VM configuration editor helps you define or modify the features of a VM.You can use the VM configuration editor to create a new configuration file, or to modify characteristics of an existing file.
To use the VM configuration editor:
If you are reviewing a configuration for a VM that is powered on, you cannot make changes; you can only review the current settings. The VM must be powered off if you want to change its configuration.
For each characteristic you wish to review (or change), click the entry or the expansion button to its left. A dialog panel appears in which you can review and modify settings for that entry.
If you have made any changes to the configuration file, the VM configuration editor asks you if you wish to save the file. Press Save to save your changes. The VM configuration editor closes.
If you wish to save changes to a different file name, you must press Save, and then rename the file that you have saved.
To save a new file, enter a valid file name for the VM configuration file. The length and allowed characters are subject to the rules of the host operating system.
The name of the configuration file is also used as the name of the virtual machine. It is appears as the title for the VM window whenever you start this machine. Keep this in mind if you intend to create multiple VMs.
The remaining sections of this chapter discuss each of the configuration categories in more detail.
