This chapter describes the first major step of creating a virtual machine: installing the VMware application. It first suggests some pre-installation steps to help you prepare to install. It then describes the installation process.
The file INSTALL may contain a more current version of this information. Look for "installation" on the support pages of the VMware Web site. The file is also on the VMware distribution media. After you install VMware you can create as many virtual machines as you want to. The process of defining a virtual machine (VM) is called configuration; this process is described in the next chapter, "Configuring a Virtual Machine".
