CHANGES in BUILD-205 (1.0.2) FROM BUILD-184

MAJOR CHANGES IN BUILD-160 (1.0) FROM VMWARE BETA BUILD-152
-----------------------------------------------------

o Entlightment Window Manager

    - Workaround for an X-server bug that occurs frequently using
the entlightment window manager (used by GNOME). Symptom is that it
      hangs the machine.

Keep monitoring www.vmware.com/xfree86 for more news about the fix in
      the X-server.

o Installation
    - Precompiled modules for RedHat 6.0 -- smp
    - Host-only networking fixes for Caldera distribution

MAJOR CHANGES IN BUILD-152 FROM VMWARE BETA BUILD-135
-----------------------------------------------------

o Two levels of logging
    - use "Normal" option for maximum performance
    - use "Debug" option before submitting a bug report

o Installation
    - Pre-compiled modules for RedHat 6.0 and SuSE6.1
    - fix problem where /lib/modules/misc/preferred is a soft-link

o GUI fixes
   - invoking help (via the browser) no longer slows down the VM
   - popup windows track main window

o License
   - This version will require a new evaluation license, available from our server.
Evaluation are valid for 30 days, and are renewable on our site.

   - fixes problem with NIS servers.

o Sound device is configurable

o Serial port
   - fixes major performance problem in the case of uploads.

o 36 bugs fixed, 50 incidents closed.

MAJOR CHANGES IN BUILD-135 FROM VMWARE BETA BUILD-106
------------------------------------------------------

o 90 bug fixes corresponding to over 300 incidents reported by beta users

o Performance improvements, especially for Windows 98 guest and disks

o Single stepping support for debuggers within a virtual machine

o Support for international keyboards
    - See technical notes on international keyboard support at
      http://www.vmware.com/support

o On-line help and many GUI enhancements

o Added menu entry to generate Control-Alt-Delete
    - This is useful for sending Control-Alt-Delete to a remote guest
operating system where the Control-Alt-Delete would otherwise be
      interpreted by the local system.

o Added -q flag that causes VMware to quit on power-off

o Windows 98 now idles without consuming all of the CPU

o 32 Bit I/O works for IDE devices

o Better virtual CD-ROM implementation --
    - Support more DOS ATAPI drivers, fail better on a few others
    - Detect media change and report it correctly (Linux 2.2.4 or later)
    - Audio Play/Stop/Pause/Rewind/Forward works
    - Audio extraction works skeletally (Correctly on a VM running
Linux, not as well tested on other Virtual OSes)

o Better CD-ROM performance and behavior (requires Linux 2.2.4 or
  later) --
    - Prevent door from slamming shut every few seconds
    - Leave door unlocked unless the Guest OS expressly locks it
    - Non-invasive probing: prevents regular "pausing" and runs without
the kernel writing to syslog (ATAPI only, the Linux SCSI driver
      is too chatty)
    - Generic performance optimization for OSes that issue multi-sector
      CD-ROM reads

o Better audio support --
    - Support all standard Windows audio drivers

o Better host-only networking support --
    - Support for multiple interfaces (each independent)
    - Interface configuration done at power-on time
    - The VMware DHCP service is only active when virtual machines are
      powered on

o Implement "Strange Geometry" writes for floppy disk drives

o Fixes problem with Xircom Ethernet cards dropping long packets

o Fixes incorrect modeling of the PCI configuration space

o Support for Asian Windows 95 OSR2 guest operating system

o Support for Netware clients (IPX networking) with guest operating
  systems
    - Novell Netware server still has problems running as a guest
      operating system

o Support for FreeBSD 3.0 and 3.1 guest operating systems

o Support for OpenBSD and BSD/OS 4.0 guest operating systems
  (experimental)

o Support for serial drawing tablets (pointing devices)

o Support for Pentium III processor extensions (experimental)

o VMware now implements a per-virtual disk access lock
    - Previous locks were per virtual machine implemented on the
      configuration file

o Virtual serial port UARTs are upgraded to 16550A from 16450

o Serial ports are now shareable between virtual machines (and other
processes on the host) and are treated as "removable devices"

o The real time clock device /dev/rtc is now shareable between virtual
machines (and other processes on the host) and treated as a "removable
device". It is automatically acquired and released as needed by
  virtual machines

Other fixes were also made in the VMwareTools for Linux and VMWareTools
for Windows and Windows NT.
