LICENSING AND INSTALLATION

This software is licensed under the End User License Agreement that is
displayed during software installation and included in the online
documentation.

The COM/IP software uses a License Key that controls the maximum number of
active virtual COM ports and optional features.

If you have obtained a License Key, enter it when prompted by the
installation process or later using the COM/IP Licensing command.

The installation program may offer the option to enable the COM/IP
software for and evaluation period of 30 days.	The end date of the
evaluation period is displayed in the COM/IP About box. At any time, a
License Key can be entered using the COM/IP Licensing command.

============================================================================
NEW IN V4.8.1

Adds new Advanced Option "Translate Dial Number" for translating telephone
numbers to hostnames using a specified template.

============================================================================
NEW IN V4.8

Includes OpenSSL patch preventing RSA Signature Forgery (CVE-2006-4339).
(OpenSSL software runs only if the Tactical Software license key enables
encryption.)

============================================================================
NEW IN V4.7

Adds support for 64-bit(x64) processors running Windows XP 64-bit Edition
or Windows 2003 64-bit Edition. The setup program automatically installs
the 64-bit software when required.

All features in the 64-bit version are the same as the 32-bit version,
except for the Encryption (SSL) feature, which is not available for 64-bit
processors.

Adds a workaround to prevent a BSOD crash of Symantec / Norton software
firewall products in symtdi.sys.

============================================================================
NEW IN V4.6

The number of virtual COM ports supported by the COM/IP Redirector has
been increased from 256 to 4096 ports.	(On Windows 98/95/Me the limit
remains 256 ports.)

The COM/IP Select Ports dialog has been enhanced to make it easier to
specify and view the selected ports.

The COM/IP Control Panel now has a Copy To feature that allows the
configuration of the currently selected virtual COM port to be copied to
any or all other virtual COM ports.

In the Port Monitor, the Trace window now supports selective capture of
virtual COM ports and filtering of the Trace display to show trace data
for a specified subset of ports.

Data displayed in the Trace window can be written to the system debug
channel, with an optional tag.

The amount of system RAM used for each Trace window can be set to be
"large", which is 16 times the size used with the default setting.

The Init String is now included in the Trace Log.

The Init String is now applied both at COM port open and after all modem
reset (ATZ) commands.

NEW IN V4.5

When installing a software update over this version (4.5) or later, the
License Key is preserved if the type of licensing being used (seat or
site) is not changed.

A new Check for Updates feature submits a query to the Tactical Software
web site to obtain information about applicable updates.

The icon in the system tray is does not appear if the product is installed
with the Administrator Only Mode feature selected.

============================================================================
NEW IN V4.4

The number of ports allowed by the COM/IP License Key now applies only to
the number of ports in simultaneous use. Any number of virtual COM ports
can be configured.

============================================================================
NEW IN V4.3

The encryption protocol used is now selectable between SSL v3 and TLS v1.

The version of OpenSSL used to provide encryption has been updated to
0.9.7d.

============================================================================
NEW IN V4.2

The Windows Installer is now used, providing command line installs,
unattended installation and support for SMS installation.

An optional Configuration Snapshot Utility is available to copy existing
settings for use in future installations.

A new Options tab provides additional settings in the Advanced dialog.

Proxy server support includes Apache and Squid proxy servers running the
HTTPS protocol.

============================================================================
NEW IN V4.1

New optional SSL/TLS Security features encrypt the network connection
between the redirector and the device server and support processing of
SSL/TLS certificates.

Proxy server support is added for Microsoft ISA proxy servers running the
SOCKS protocol.
