1. What's New in PC-cillin 2000
========================================================================
PC-cillin 2000 is the newest version of the PC-cillin product family.
It fully supports the Windows(R) 2000 platform. Many exciting new
features and enhancements have been added, including the following:

  Windows 2000 Support!
  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  PC-cillin now provides full support for Windows 2000 users and has
  the Windows 2000-compliant logo.
  Virus Scanning of POP3 Email
  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  If you use Microsoft Outlook Express 4.01 or above or Eudora Pro 4.0
  or above as your email client, Trend PC-cillin 2000 will scan your
  email messages as they download from the POP3 server. Virus-infected
  attachments are stopped before they ever reach your computer!

  Virus Scanning of Local Outlook Folders
  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  If you use Microsoft Outlook as your email client, Trend PC-cillin
  2000 provides on-demand scanning of local folders for virus-infected
  attachments. Trend PC-cillin will automatically detect an installed
  copy of Microsoft Outlook on the computer and enable the user
  interface elements that permit the use of this feature. Please note
  that this feature does not scan messages stored on a Microsoft
  Exchange server,  but only scans messages in local folders.
  Internet Intelligent Auto Update
  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  PC-cillin 2000 now can auto detect the Internet connection and check
  the pattern/engine/program version number in Trend's server. If update
  is necessary, it will prompt you to download the update files. All
  update activities take place in the background, and you don't need to
  keep checking the availability of new anti-virus component any more.

  Incremental Virus Pattern Downloads
  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  No longer do you have to download the entire virus pattern file when
  updating your software. Trend PC-cillin 2000 supports incremental
  pattern updates whereby only the virus patterns that have changed
  since the last update are downloaded. This greatly reduces the
  download time, saving time and expense that you have to spend on
  Internet connection charges.
  Resume Download for Update Process
  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  Whenever the download process for the pattern/engine/program update
  files fails, the next download can continue from the breaking point
  to resume the download. If there is a newer version in the server
  after the download process has failed, it will not be resumed, and
  the whole file will be downloaded instead.

  PCSCAN Command Line Scanner Supports Pattern Files Larger Than 1.44 MB
  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  Due to the large number of known computer viruses that have been
  identified, the virus pattern file is now too large to fit on a
  single 1.44 MB diskette. The emergency rescue disk creation utility
  can now split the virus pattern file over several diskettes.
  Additionally, the "PCSCAN" command line scanner supports virus pattern
  files that have been spanned over more than one diskette.
2. PC-cillin 2000 Features
========================================================================
PC-cillin 2000 represents a significant achievement in antivirus
protection for home and office users.  Additionally, we've enhanced the
user interface, automated most tasks, use Trend Micro's award-winning
virus detection engine, and made our top-notch teams of Virus Doctors
and Technical Support engineers available for live "chats" and email
support. What's more, Internet Explorer (or Windows 98/2000) users can
stay up-to-date with the latest in virus news with Trend's Active
Desktop. In other words, "The doctor is IN, and he makes HOUSECALLS!"
Here are the details:
  MacroTrap
  ~~~~~~~~~
  With the proliferation of new and increasingly dangerous types of
  "Internet-aware" viruses, PC-cillin is MORE than just "up-to-date"
  -- it's SMART and real-time. The PC-cillin MacroTrap uses rules-
  based analysis to determine whether or not macro code is viral.
  This is important because new macro viruses spread quickly and are
  created so often that there is no time to follow the usual cycle
  of creating fixes and distributing pattern files.

  Software with SERVICE!
  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  Solid technical support is one of the most important aspects of any
  antivirus product. So we built it into the program! Got a question?
  The answer is just a few mouse clicks away.
  o Breaking Virus News:  When a new virus appears, sometimes the
    best defense is information. Sign up for this online service and
    we will send you the latest breaking virus news.
  o Virus Calendar: Using Active Desktop, PC-cillin keeps you informed
    with a weekly summary of virus events and news.
  Weekly Pattern Updates
  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  At Trend Micro, we pioneered Internet updates for virus pattern and
  program files. To keep up with the latest viruses, we post new
  pattern files at least weekly. You can download these updates
  automatically, or just click a couple of buttons to download the
  latest pattern file whenever you want.

  PC-cillin Can Scan Virtually All Media
  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  PC-cillin 2000 can scan the following types of drives in addition to
  conventional hard disk drives: CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW, MO, PD, FDD, DVD,
  ZIP and LS120.
  Internet Updates after Software Installation
  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  After installing the software, the installation program provides the
  option to connect to the Internet to download updated program
  components that have been released since the shipping of the software.
  Previous versions of the PC-cillin installation program were unable to
  retrieve the proxy server password to use the update feature following
  installation.

3. System Requirements
========================================================================

 OS: Microsoft Windows 95/98, Windows NT 4.0 (SP4 or higher), or
             Windows 2000 Professional
 CPU: Intel 486, Pentium, or 100% compatible
 Memory:     24 MB RAM
 Disk Space: 12 MB hard disk space
 Monitor: 800x600 or higher resolution; 256 or more colors

 CD-ROM: 2x or faster for program installation

             Desktop & Active Channel options

4. Installing PC-cillin
=========================================================================
Installing PC-cillin is easy and takes about five minutes. Heres how
to install...

  Note: You will need four formatted diskettes if you would like to
        create a set of rescue disks. They will be used to hold the
        scanning program, the boot disk, and the virus pattern.

  1. Insert the PC-cillin program CD into your CD-ROM drive.

     o If Autoplay is enabled, choose "Install" from the list
       of options that appears.

     o If Autoplay is not enabled, click the "Start" button,
       then "Run". Enter "d:\disk1\setup.exe" in the "Open"
       field (where "d:\" is the drive letter of your CD-ROM)
       and then click "OK".

  2. PC-cillin will check and clean your system memory, boot sector, and
     critical files before installing its program files.

     If the installation program detects a virus in your computer's boot
     sector, memory or important folders, the program will exit and you
     must clean the virus prior to restarting the installation program.
     Follow these steps:

     a. Get a clean, bootable floppy disk (e.g., the one you made
        when installing Windows) and be sure it is write-protected).

        Note: The disk is write-protected when you can see through
               both squares in the upper corners.

     b. When prompted by PC-cillin, insert the disk into your floppy
        drive, exit Windows, and restart the computer.

     c. When the computer restarts, you will see a DOS prompt (an a:\
        appearing on a dark screen). Type the following commands:

        Windows 95/98
        ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
             c:             [ press enter ]
             cd pcscan.tmp  [ press enter ]
             pcscan /V /C   [ press enter ]
        Windows NT or Windows 2000
        ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
        Go to the location of your PC-cillin installation files (on the
        hard disk), then go to the \PCSCAN directory and type the
        command:

             pcscan /V /C   [ press enter ]

     Caution! Boot viruses spread easily. If PC-cillin detected a
     boot virus, chances are your floppy diskettes are also infected.
     After installing, run the Floppy Scan task and check all your
     floppies for viruses.

  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

     a. During installation, complete the proxy server information
        section if you connect to the Internet via a proxy server.

     b. You are prompted to have PC-cillin create Rescue Disks, which are
        four clean, bootable floppy disks you can use to start your
        computer if it crashes or becomes infected with a boot-sector
        virus. Do not use rescue disks from a previous version of
        PC-cillin.

     c. In order to receive technical support, you must register
        your software.

   4. When you have finished installing PC-cillin, you must restart
      your computer.

  30-day Trial Version
  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  A 30-day trial version of PC-cillin 2000 will be installed if no
  serial number is entered. This version is fully functional, but
  after 30 days virus scanning will be disabled, at which time you
  should either purchase the product or disable it. If you decide to
  purchase PC-cillin after it has expired, click the "Order Screen"
  that appears and choose "Click Here" to open your web browser to the
  following site:
     http://www.antivirus.com/products/pcc/buy.htm
  You will be sent a special "unlock" program that you can use to
  restore your PC-cillin protection.
  Upgrading
  ~~~~~~~~~
  If you are upgrading to PC-cillin 2000 from a previous version,
  please stop real-time scanning (i.e., "Smart Monitor"
  or "PC-cillin") before running Setup. The Installation
  program will automatically delete your old version of PC-cillin.

  Special Notice for Windows 2000 users
  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  PC-cillin now allows you to install on a Windows 2000 platform via the
  Windows Installer program. However, unlike installation on other
  platforms, the procedures for installing PC-cillin in Windows 2000 are
  slightly different:
  1. While installing PC-cillin, no on-screen instructions are provided
     for you to register PC-cillin or download update files. However,
     when you are upgrading for the first time, PC-cillin can
     automatically register itself.
  2. At the end of the installation process, PC-cillin will prompt
     you to perform an update. You may either perform the update then
     or at a later time.
  3. When you have finished installing PC-cillin, you must manually
     restart your computer.
  4. Windows Installer does not support the auto-uninstallation
     function.
5. Configuring PC-cillin
=========================================================================
The new Mail Scan features in PC-cillin 2000 can be easily accessed
in one new screen in the user interface:
  1. On the top menu bar, click "Options", then select "Mail Scan".
  2. Choose the action to take when viruses are found in Microsoft
     Outlook and/or POP3 email files.
  3. Click "Apply" and the program will automatically use your new
     configuration choices.
  Note: For more information on PC-cillin configuration, please see the
        online help file or the Quick Start Guide. The latest, most
        up-to-date documentation can be found at:
            http://www.trend.com/download/documentation
6. Known Issues
=========================================================================
Known issues are documented in "SolutionBank," Trend's free online
database filled with answers to common questions at:
      http://solutionbank.antivirus.com/solutions
The contents of SolutionBank are being continuously updated, and new
solutions are added daily. If you are unable to find an answer, however,
you can describe the problem in email and send it to a support engineer
at support@trendmicro.com.
The following are known issues:
  Conflict with Netsonic
  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  PC-cillin's WebTrap is not compatible with Netsonic, the Internet disk
  caching utility, and has been known to cause the following error:
  "Rundll32 cause an invalid page fault in module kernel32.dll at
  015f:bff7b97"

  To address this problem, either uninstall Netsonic before installing
  PC-cillin, or choose not to enable WebTrap when prompted by the PC-cillin
  installation program.

  Slow Startup
  ~~~~~~~~~~~~
  PC-cillin performs a Startup Scan of critical files before Windows
  loads. Depending on how many files are involved and the speed of your
  computer, this scan can take from several seconds to several minutes.
  If you feel the delay is too long, you can turn off PC-cillin's
  Startup Scan.
  To turn on/off the Startup Scan,
  1. From the PC-cillin main menu, click "Options".
  2. A check beside "Startup Scan" indicated that it is enabled. Click
     on "Startup Scan" to turn it on/off.
  POP3 Scanning Uses TCP/IP Port 110
  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  PC-cillin 2000's POP3 Scanning feature uses TCP/IP Port 110 by default.
  Scanning will not be successful if your email client uses a TCP/IP port
  other than 110. If you use a different TCP/IP port, please contact
  Trend Micro's technical support department for a workaround.

  POP3 Scanning Setting
  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  New POP3 scan will change the settings of mail clients as follows:
         POP3server: server name 	 ---> localhost
         user name:  name 	 	 ---> name/server name
  Attentions for those who update to 7.5 from 7.2x through Internet
  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  If you installed PC-cillin 2000 v7.2x and download the update files
  to update to v7.5, the POP3 settings of mail client will not be
  recover to your original setting after uninstallation. Please follow
  the instruction below to solve the problem:

  i. Do uninstall after POP3 scan is turned off."

  ii. Please recover the settings manually:
         POP3server: localhost ---> server name (or IP address)
         user name: name/server name ---> name

  Detecting Virus During Installation Will Abort Setup
  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  The PC-cillin installation program performs a pre-scan of system memory
  important folders on the computer. If a virus is detected, the
  installation will stop. Please reboot your computer from a clean,
  bootable floppy diskette and use "PCScan" to remove the virus. Once the
  virus has been eliminated, you should attempt the setup again.
  Uninstall All Copies of PC-cillin 2000 Beta Version
  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  If your computer has PC-cillin 2000 beta version installed,
  you must uninstall prior to installing the release version. This
  is because a file javahook.dll cannot be overwritten during the
  subsequent installation.

  Windows 98 Second Edition Cannot Display ActiveDesktop
  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  If you install PC-cillin 2000 to a computer running Windows 98 Second
  Edition, you will not be able to view the ActiveDesktop content
  features.
  Power Management Features Can Cause Web Browser to Hang
  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  If WebTrap is enabled on a computer on which power management has
  been enabled, the WebTrap program may hang during a period of inactivity
  when the computer powers down. When the computer is used again, the
  web browser program may have to be restarted.

  Novell Client32 Not Supported
  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  PC-cillin 2000 will not work properly on a computer running Novell's
  Client32. If you need to connect your computer to a Novell NetWare
  server, use Microsoft's IPX/SPX.
  RAID Systems Not Supported
  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  PC-cillin 2000 cannot successfully scan RAID storage systems.

  Note about Creating Rescue Disks on USB Floppy Disk Drives
  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  Sometimes when a floppy disk drive is connected to a USB port, the
  drive letter is not displayed in Windows Explorer. When this occurs,
  do not attempt to create rescue diskettes on the drive.
7. Bug Fixed
=========================================================================
  1. Insufficient memory problem of POP3 Scan function happenning when
     receiving large mail attachments.
  2. When "Format" dialog canceled during rescue disk creation, status and
     check mark won't be refreshed.
  3. Two same "PC-cillin" items come out in shortcut's context menu.
  4. During PC-cillin 2000 installation's Pre-install Scan, dialog in the
     background not disabled.
